Shelburne Farms is an education nonprofit on a mission to inspire and cultivate learning for a sustainable future through its programs, place, and products. It offers transformative learning experiences to help educators, students, and visitors create a more thriving world.
Shelburne Farms’ historic campus along the shores of Lake Champlain is a 1,400-acre diversified working farm located on the unceded, traditional, and contemporary homelands of the Winooskik band of the Abenaki.
Day visits are currently free of charge (donations encouraged), and from mid-May to mid-October, day visitors are welcome to enjoy :
Farm Store & Welcome Center: Grab a Visitor Guide, ask questions, and pick up some products from the farm and other Vermont producers: Cheddar cheese made right on the property from the milk of their Brown Swiss cows, maple syrup, meat, and organic veggies and fruit from their Market Garden. Chef-prepared dishes are available in the fall/winter. You can order products online for local pickup, too. Hours: Daily, 9:30am–5:30pm
Walking Trails: Explore meadows, pastures, forests, the Inn flower gardens, and the lakeshore across 10 miles of trails, open daily, dawn to dusk. Enjoy beautiful views east to Camel's Hump and the Green Mountains and stunning views to the Inn, Lake Champlain, and Adirondack Mountains from the top of Lone Tree Hill (a moderate climb, totally worth the effort.) You'll often see cows and sheep grazing. Benches along the trails allow you to sit and take in the beauty of this historic agricultural landscape. Please note: Trails are not maintained for winter use.
Farm Barn Fun Enjoy activities and animals in the Children’s Farmyard, watch cheesemakers craft milk into farmstead cheddar, meet a live owl or hawk, or order a farm lunch or snack from the Farm Cart. See website for days and hours of activities.
Tours, Workshops, and Events See website calendar for details on year-round offerings, including Sun to Cheese Tours and House and Garden Tours.
